If you are building straightforward shelves you also need to add wood supports along the back wall of the closet.

If you want deeper closet shelves you ll either need to stack boards together to make it wider or you ll need to buy a large sheet of 4 x 8 plywood and cut out the size you want.
To assemble the shelving together start from the bottom working upwards and use 1 25 screws in the remaining pocket holes 1 1 8 from the edge.
Put all side diy pine shelving brackets on following steps 6 10 12.
Place shelving pieces in the location you want to assemble them.
Our top shelves are 40 across the back of the closet.
For example if your shelving material is a full 16 inches wide keep the top shelf at that width and rip the supporting partitions to 15 3 4 inches.
Again don t forget the level.
Consider how deep you want them to be and what materials you ll need to buy in order to make them deeper.
Simply cut another 1 x2 board the length of your shelf minus 3 inches to accommodate the side supports and screw it to the studs along the back wall of the closet.
One quarter inch is a good reveal at each level of the closet.
Cut down shelves that tie into the partitions to 15 1 2 inches wide.
